Oaks Day lunch raises $4000

By Riverine Herald

THE fashion stakes weren’t being run just at Flemington during the recent spring carnival.

Here in the twin towns more than 120 fashionably aware local ladies gathered for the Wharparilla Ladies Auxiliary Oaks Day lunch.

Held in the Cunningham Downs Community Hall, the chicken and champagne luncheon proved a much safer bet than the bookies trackside, with the auxiliary raising more than $4000 on the day.

Those funds will go towards purchasing a portable bath for Wharparilla Lodge Aged Care.

Lady of the day was Joan North and the prize for best hat or fascinator went to Tina Kline.

President of the auxiliary, Bev Lynch, thanked everyone for coming to the annual event and making the day so successful.

Special thanks also went to compere John Moyle and the auxiliary members for making and donating such a variety of delicious salads and slices.
