Murals finish as restrictions ease

The completion of a number of murals in the Finley community has come at an ideal time, finished just days before businesses could reopen and regional travel was allowed.Former Riverina artist Damian Mitchell, who is now based in New York, has been immortalising the town’s history and famous faces in a series of displays.Among the newest murals is one of the band Spiderbait, whose members grew up in Finley. It was created at the Tuppal Hotel where there is also a mural of Brownlow medallist Shane Crawford.Mr Mitchell has also started another mural at the Tuppal of AFL star Tom Hawkins and will return later in the year to finish it.The artist also finished two large murals to beautify the outside of the Finley Bowling Club.Tuppal owner Greg Brain said the new murals will be a drawcard for visitors.‘‘Our pool room (where the Spiderbait mural was created) was frequently visited by many who were here when we could reopen on Monday, and only positive reactions came from it,’’ Mr Brain said.
