Mr Potent is the Australia Day ambassador for Murrumbidgee Council, and Mayor Ruth McRae said she is looking forward to hosting the renowned rifle shooter.
‘‘He will attend the Australia Day breakfast at Coleambally, as well as lunch at Darlington Point,’’ Cr McRae said.
‘‘He has also been invited to attend the celebrations at Jerilderie.’’
Mr Potent is the current Commonwealth Games and World Champion and been ranked as the number one prone rifle shooter in the world six times in his career.
He has represented Australia at the Sydney, Athens, Beijing, London and Rio de Janeiro Olympic games and in 1986 he won the International Shooting Sport Federation World Championship.
He holds two Commonwealth records and was the first Australian rifle shooter to win a World Cup Final.
He is also the only Australian rifle shooter to compete at five Olympics.
Mr Potent is one of only two people in the world to be both the Commonwealth and World Champion at the same time.
His medal tally includes: four Commonwealth medals including one individual gold, 12 World Cup medals (seven gold), three World Cup Final medals (one gold) and three World Championship medals (two gold).
