The Saints jumped out of the blocks and went in at the first quarter seven points up but a four goal to one second quarter saw the Saints head into the main break down by 12.
It was game on again in the third with both teams kicking two goals, but the Saints were wasteful in front of goal kicking six points.
At three quarter time it was still anyone’s game but it was the Bombers that prevailed in the end.
Ben Irvine was the pick of the Saints doing a great job in defence while also giving away a lot of height.
Angus Coldwell and Dougie Beams kicked two goals apiece up forward and also found themselves in the best.
Tim Cooper made his way back to the Saints and also did well down back as did new recruit Will Robinson while Jake Dalgliesh was as lively as ever up forward. Although the narrow loss was a bitter pill to swallow it was great to see the young boys in Haintz, Peters and Dempster step up when the pressure was on.
Final score, Waaia 11.7 (73) to Berrigan 8.9 (57).
The reserves cruised to a pleasing 52 point win over reigning premiers Waaia.
The Saints defended brilliantly and were in control for most of the game thanks to the run and delivery of Kyle Hawker and the dash of David Riddle.
Adam Fox, Ian Congdon and Noel Baxter controlled the ball out of the middle thanks to the fine tap work of Dan Hustwayte.
Up forward it was the perennial Matthew Eales who did most of the damage kicking a deadly accurate three goals.
Final score, Berrigan 9.11 (65) to Waaia 2.1 (13).
The fourths were up and about against Waaia, scoring a massive 82 point win.
Matt Whelan started the account with a quick goal in the opening minutes followed very quickly by Tyrell Taylor who ended up with five goals, a great effort by this young boy in the forward line who presented well all game.
The goals continued and were shared around with Zac Ferguson, Liam Brown, Connor Taylor-Titlow, Jebidah MeyerVale, Jack Steel, Lachlan O’Dwyer and Darcy Pyle.
Hamish Cameron played a tough game and Xavier Fox was very handy around the packs having a strong voice on the field encouraging his mates.
Caleb Thornton again put on a great display of toughness, tackling hard and always playing his part.
