Dees cause major upset

Jerilderie’s thirds reversed the home and away season losses to the Deni Rovers in their Picola & District League semi final, earning a spot in the decider with a 22 point win.The Rovers were quick out of the blocks and had a quick three goals on the board, while keeping the Demons goalless for the term at Berrigan Sportsground.Charlie Simpson was picking up plenty of possessions and Zander Nash also worked hard.Jerilderie were more competitive in the second term, narrowing the margin to 11 points at the main break.After the main break, the Demons came out with renewed vigour and controlled the tempo of the game, kicking five goals while keeping the Rovers goalless.James Shaw dominated across the centre to be best on ground for the Demons, while Brad Aylett also lifted with great attack on the ballJerilderie’s backline was solid in the last term with Alex A’vard running forward to kick a goal, while some undisciplined play by the Rovers resulted in some more scoring opportunities for the Demons.Haydn Mowat was declared Deni’s best player, with good support from Raymond Murphy, Jai Ezard, Alvin Cooper and captain Kaiden Joss.Jerilderie’s best were James Shaw, Brad Aylett, Ben Coghill, Charlie Simpson, Zander Nash and Alex A’Vard.Final score, Jerilderie 10.5 (65) to Deni Rovers 6.7 (43).Jerilderie will now face an undefeated Berrigan in the grand final at Memorial Park this Saturday.The young fourths Demons fought hard in the heat against a tough Rovers side on Saturday, but were unable to take the win.Deni piled on 15 goals in the opening three quarters before things tightened up in the last, with both sides fielding all 24 of their players to give everyone a run.The first term started slowly for the Demons, however Ben Kennedy continued his great run of form playing in the midfield and Nicola Di Lullo worked hard at fullback.The second quarter saw some improvement with Tex Flack applying pressure on the opposition all day and Logan Eldridge showing great attack on the football.The Rovers had the game under control, but the Dees continued to play hard with James Winn coming out of his shell to pick up possessions.
