The $158,000 project was undertaken by Murrumbidgee Council utilising the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities funding.
Murrumbidgee Council Mayor Ruth McRae described the investment in vital community infrastructure like Monash Park through these funding opportunities as so beneficial to our small rural community.
Cr McRae said our football and netball clubs play such an important part in the social fabric and well health of our community.
“The upgrade to the lighting is all part of providing a safe environment for our players and spectators,” she said.
“Importantly, it also provides the opportunity for hosting night games and finals, which is a terrific addition to the sporting schedule.”
The lights have already been put to good use with several night games.
Jerilderie Football Netball Club President Dean Knight said these night games, such as Wednesday night's fourths and thirds games, would not have been possible previously.
Knight said the funding opportunity for our lighting upgrade is a great investment in the Jerilderie Football Netball Club and the Jerilderie community in general.
“It also makes playing and training safer and a better spectacle for our supporters,” he said.
“We would like to thank Murrumbidgee Council and the State Government for investing in our rural community.”
Contractors for the project were Covill Electrical, Mark Murphy Electrical, Babcon Cranes, Focus Engineering and Murrumbidgee Council.
The new light poles are made of galvanised iron. They are 30 meters high and the luminosity has an average lux of 125.
