Winning the toss, the Saints elected to bowl on a green top with a bit of moisture in it.
Both Saints openers Matt Ross (4/18 off eight) and Zach Nugent (3/18 off eight) had both Cobram openers Brett Gallagher (4) and Jimmy Daniel (27) playing and missing for the first six overs until Nugent struck removing Gallagher, caught at gully with the score on 16.
Cobram's captain Andrew Hogan was next in but instantly sent back, this time Ross dismissing him for a duck caught at slip and followed closely by Nick Hoban for a duck bowled by Ross as well with the tigers collapsing to 3/21.
Justin Peace (4) was the new man in to join Daniel in the middle and the two steadied the ship for the Tigers ticking the score over to 36, before the spin of Simon Packer (2/25 off eight) went straight through Peace’s defence bowling him for 4.
Arthur Zito (17) was the next man but again Packer struck, removing the patient Daniel caught at slip, the Saints had Cobram struggling at 5/46.
Brodie Seccull (16) was the next man in and opted for a more attacking approach to the Saints bowling moving the score on quickly in the final 10 overs of the innings.
Doug Edwards Jnr (22 not out) came in and also took the attacking approach particularly to Zugents bowling early in his innings.
Meanwhile Ross back on at the other end trapped Zito, plumb LBW for 17 to keep the Cobram wickets tumbling to 7/81.
Glen Sneddon march to the centre saw him not break stride as he was dismissed for a golden duck bowled by Ross.
Sam Decicco survived the hat trick ball, but was caught the following over off Nugent for a duck and Cobram were now 9/82.
Michael Keech (five) and Edwards hit out in the final overs of their innings taking the Cobram total to 9/100 off their 40 overs.
With 101 to chase the Saints opening pair of Andrew Parr (10) and Simon Packer (3) took the opportunity to score quickly against some wayward opening bowling of Hoban (1/26 off eight) and Edwards (2/17 off eight).
Brad Loats (13) and Nugent (six) were the new men in for the Saints steading the ship by turning the strike over, but again a little luck for Cobram had Nugent bowled by Edwards.
Ross (17) joined Loats and again started to build a partnership before Hogan (1/13 off eight) stepped up and bowled Loats for 13. The score now 4/45.
With pressure starting to build on the Saints, Fraser Haintz (25) and Ross set about getting the scoring rate back up.
Haintz continued on his merry way scoring freely but Seccull's (4/8 off 5.3) bowling turned the game for the Tigers dismissing the Saints new man Matt Whelan for 1 stumped and then Haintz caught at slip, the Saints were now 8/90.
Graeme Parr (three) and Tom Isedale (four) with three overs to go, ran on everything getting the score to 99 before Peace (1/5 off two) with his left armers cleaned bowled Isedale for 4.
With six balls left and two runs to go the pressure was on the Saints.
Seccull struck one last time, with Parr edging a ball, caught at deep fine leg with the Saints losing by an agonising one run.
Harley Middleton took home the Tim Harris Transport award for his bowling efforts of 0/8 off eight overs straight.
