Finley residents will soon benefit from having a shaded path connecting homes to the town’s CBD, schools and parks as well as improved road safety.
NSW Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Premier Steph Cooke said $1 million from the $170 million Drought Stimulus Package will enable Coree Street to be reconstructed and trees planted to provide a shady canopy along key parts of the road.
Ms Cooke said the road, kerb, gutter and drainage will be upgraded and the existing weeping native trees lining the median strip will be replaced with species that will provide better shade protection and create an improved aesthetic feel for local residents.
“The drought and COVID-19 is impacting businesses right across regional NSW, including in Finley, and this project will provide a local economic boost during this unprecedented period while also creating a distinct pathway to the CBD,” Ms Cooke said.
“Temperatures during summer months regularly climb above 40°C and this natural shade canopy, once fully grown, will allow residents to walk or cycle to the CBD or parks protected from the harsh rays of the sun.
“Reconstructing Coree St will also improve local road safety and reduce vehicle wear and tear, as well as providing a smoother ride for cyclists.”
Ms Cooke said Coree St is one of several projects to receive a share from the NSW Government’s $170 million Drought Stimulus Package.
“This funding will keep people in work and keep money flowing through towns,” Ms Cooke said.
“Communities, businesses, farmers and water security are our top priorities and agencies across the NSW Government are working together to deliver the support, programs and infrastructure made possible by our funding programs.”
More than $1.9 billion has been made available through the NSW Government’s Drought Relief Package, while regional water security is a focus of the $1 billion Safe and Secure Water program and the $4.2 billion Snowy Hydro Legacy Fund.
