The event is set to bring a much-needed boost to the local tourism and economy and will do it in a way never before seen in the town.
The Berrigan Shire has long been the home of many amazing events, and this March, the ‘Taste It’ food festival will sprawl through Deniliquin St from 5pm to 10pm on Saturday, March 7.
The Tocumwal Chamber of Commerce and Tourism and a small subcommittee has worked to make this festival happen the past 12 months.
The event has not been without its complications along the way.
Facing a lack of volunteer interest and sponsorship has left the committee being financially viable for a lot of the cost.
“You would think that after recruiting over 75 volunteers to run the Community BBQ at Strawberry Fields Festival, finding a handful of helpers for community events would be a breeze,” committee member Leonie Smith said.
“Unfortunately, this is not the case. We can only hope to see some hands go up to support these smaller, local events that bring so much joy to families and visitors every year.
“This year’s ‘Taste It’ food festival brings so much local flavour with Tocumwal musician Nathan Haley joining the nationally renowned Sons of the Blues and Matt Katsis.
“Exciting food options range from a three course Greek dinner menu at Chrissie's Book Lounge local eateries in conjunction with several food trucks rolling in to add to the festival feel and bring a wider range of tasty treats to town.”
The committee is hoping that the food festival will set a solid foundation to extend the towns tourism popularity for years to come.
“Community feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and the social media reach has been outstanding,” Ms Smith said.
“TCCT hope to put Tocumwal on the map with this biannual event and lay the foundations to build it into a bigger and better event each time it is held, bringing tourists and families from all over to celebrate this amazing town by the Murray.
“So put your hand up, lend your support and maybe a little of your time. Come along for an evening of family fun, great food and entertainment.”
