Heathcote mum gets Christmas surprise of a lifetime

By Jared Prestwidge

HEATHCOTE resident Anne Peagam found herself on the receiving end of the most unexpected of Christmas pranks last year when she discovered her eldest daughter hiding in one of her presents under the tree.

Anne's daughter Miranda made the long trip all the way from Sussex, England to be reunited with her mum for the holidays, not to mention give her an almighty fright.

“When I saw the box, I didn’t know what on earth was in it. And I opened the lid and inside was my daughter,” Anne said.

“I was just so stunned when she was in this box. I couldn’t believe it.”

The surprise was orchestrated by Anne’s youngest daughter, Martine, and son-in-law Paul.

Anne originally thought the giant box held a stack of hay for her beloved donkey Sammy and was never expecting to get what she did.

Unfortunately, because of the distance, Anne and Miranda only see each other once or twice a year.

And since she is getting older, Anne said she struggled to make the 23-hour flight.

Anne said she made the most of the opportunity to spend some quality time with her loved one from across the sea.

“I had the most wonderful Christmas I could have with my two daughters together,” she said.

“It was the best Christmas I ever had.”
