Round eight GMC results

By Andrew Johnston

A TOP score of 88 from Daniel Coombs and near perfect bowling from Darin Ohlsen has seen Tongala fall agonisingly short of outright victory against Echuca South in Goulburn Murray Cricket on Saturday.

Resuming at 2/51 and trailing by 72 runs, Coombs led his Blues to be all out for 211.

Four wickets for Ky Hodson was the standout for South, who were sent back in trailing by 88 runs.

From there, the Blues caught fire.

Eight batsmen were dismissed for single figures, including four ducks and a zero not out, as South collapsed.

Josh Novoselek held his side together with 32, though it looked all but certain Tongala would claim the outright victory - until the days play ended.

South were saved by the close of play, still 11 runs short of Tongala with one wicket in hand, forcing only a first innings loss.

●A WEEK ago, Kirk Teasdale put Moama in a winning position with ball in hand.

On Saturday, he iced the result with the bat.

Teasdale made an unbeaten 56 off 84 deliveries, belting seven fours to guide his side to 9/195 declared, a week after bowling out Rochester for just 92.

Rochester turned it around with the bat in their second dig, closing out play on 5/146, and avoiding outright defeat despite Moama claiming the easy win.

Its a result that sees the reigning premiers slip to 3-1-3 on the season, putting a two game gap between them and the top four.

Moama by contrast are sitting pretty in the four with an equal share of the best record in the competition at 5-2, and hoping to stay entrenched in the four for the remainder of the season.

●FIRE Brigade's 195 was too much for BLU on the final day of their clash.

With Jarrod Chapman claiming figures of 4/36, BLU could only manage 127, dropping the match to the top side in the competition.

Chris Smith (24) and Joseph Nicholls (22) both provided solid hands for BLU, but were unable to get their team to the required target.
