The supermarket’s application was submitted to council on March 12, 2015 for a combined amendment and planning permit application for a large supermarket at 35-41 Murray Valley Hwy, Echuca.
That was after July 2012 when the planning minister proposed a series of new and reformed planning zones to replace the then five business zones which were consolidated into two new commercial zones.
The application was agreed to be put on hold until council had progressed the commercial strategy for Echuca which was council adopted on May 17, 2017 and identified the site was suitable for the Echuca West Neighbourhood Centre.
The planning amendment proposes to rezone 35-41 Murray Valley Hwy from Commercial 2 Zone to Commercial 1 Zone to allow for the redevelopment as well as rezone neighbouring land to have uniform zoning for the one lot.
The amendment also looks to update policy in the Campaspe Planning Scheme to reflect the Neighbourhood Centre status of the site in line with the adopted Echuca West Commercial Strategy 2017.
A drop-in-session has been arranged at the Echuca Function Room at 2 Heygarth St, Echuca, on December 5 from 5-8pm.
The information of the proposed amendment will be available, and the session will allow for one-on-one consultation.
The closing date for submissions is 23 December 2019. Submissions must be sent to Campaspe Shire Council.
