Over the next few months, Commonwealth Bank has again pledged to donate $500,000 nationally to recognise organisations that make a difference in their communities in which we live and work. Each Commonwealth Bank branch and customer-facing team has been allocated $500 to donate to causes important to their local community.
Commonwealth Banks Corowa branch team voted to support the great work of Boomerang Bags.
“With the festive season approaching, it’s a timely opportunity for us to show our support for Boomerang Bags,” Commonwealth Bank Corowa branch manager, Donna Hussey said.
“In particular, it’s great to see the impact of reducing plastic bags and supporting the local community by having the bags in local businesses for people to use instead of plastic bags, so it’s great to be able to give back and support this work.”
The Boomerang Bags group has just completed their 1000th bag and has branched out into other sustainability initiatives. They held a Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Repurpose competition earlier this year at the four Corowa schools.
They have just made a large banner from recycled material and hung it at O’Connor’s Farm Machinery on Federation Avenue. The message is “Use less plastic- How fantastic”.
Their purpose is to inspire the local community to reduce the use of single use plastics; plastic bags, water bottles, straws and coffee cups.
The group is very grateful for the cash donation from the Commonwealth Bank and plans to use it to fund sustainability initiatives in the community.
