Year 5 and 6 students were asked to write and deliver a four minute speech about their favourite book, placing themselves in this imaginary place as one of the characters.
Olivia, who is in Year 5, took the listeners on an entertaining journey through the pages of Marcia K Vaughn's classic, Wombat Stew.
First winning the town final in competition with fellow Toc Public and Sacred Heart students, Olivia went on to win the zone final against students from Finley, Berrigan and Jerilderie at the weekend.
Toc Public principal Darren White said the students’ ability to write and present a speech in front of an audience was the result of hard work and practice.
“The Lions Club members were very impressed by the students’ confidence and the children should be proud of their efforts," he said.
In addition to her prepared speech at the zone final, Olivia and the other senior students had to present a one minute impromptu speech on 'What you like about your town'.
With only 15 minutes to prepare, Olivia's reply was described as an "impressive piece" which displayed charisma and excellent delivery.
Olivia now goes on to Tongola to compete in the Regional Lions Club Speaking competition. She will be up against the winners from other southern NSW zones, and from Northern Victoria.
