Fox drive shows boost in numbers

Southern Riverina Hunting Club members following their recent fox hunt in the local area.

Eighty-seven hunters attached to the Southern Riverina Hunting Club collected 147 foxes from its May fox drive.

Members say the haul is larger than in previous years, and indicates an increase in the pest locally.

The fox drive is timed to coincide with lambing activities.

It started on Saturday, May 19 with two starting points from Finley and Corowa.

Three groups worked from Finley and two from Corowa, driving swamps and rice stubbles across the the region toward the final camp destination past Jerilderie.

Hunters came from the local area, Sale, Ballarat and Leeton to participate.

Every second year SRHC Inc — which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary — is fortunate to have ongoing support from a number of sponsors throughout the region.

These donations vary from fishing tools, education on hunting, merchandise or camping goods and are raffled as prizes for those who attend.

This year the support was generous and allowed the club to also run a couple of ‘fun’ activities on the Sunday for the children of participating hunters.
