An eight goal haul by Blighty assistant coach Jed Brain (pictured) led his side to a much needed percentage boosting win over Jerilderie in round nine of the Picola & District League on Saturday.
Brain’s haul, bringing his season tally to 37 majors, helped the Redeyes to a 157 point win at home, lifting his side to third spot on the ladder.
A 10 goal first quarter got things running their way and it did not get much better for the Demons who conceded 25 goals.
Tanner Robertson and Sam Singleton (three goals), Brett MacDonald, Beau Close and Josh Phillips (all two) rounded out Blighty’s half-dozen multiple goalkickers.
Despite Brain’s haul, it was Tom Druitt (one goal) who was a clear best on ground for the Redeyes, with his run and carry carving up the Dees.
Brad Parker was best on ground for the Demons with his strong marking and attack on the ball, while Bobbie Arnold was a solid performer in the backline.
The development of the younger players continued for the Dees with great performances from Mitch A’Vard and Fraser Pinnuck.
Final score, Blighty 25.22 (172) to Jerilderie 2.3 (15).
Blighty playing-coach Jack Tyndall said it was the first time his side had put together four solid quarters this year.
‘‘We set ourselves up with our first quarter which was the most pleasing part of the day,’’ he said.
‘‘We’ve started slowly fairly often this year so it was good to come out the way we did.
‘‘But we still need to be able to do that against the top sides.
‘‘The only disappointing thing is our inaccuracy in the last quarter.
‘‘To kick 3.9 isn’t ideal, but you can’t complain about a win like that.’’
While there were plenty of goals throughout the game, none was more celebrated than when defender Cody Jordan sent through his first ever goal in senior footy.
‘‘Cody’s always playing deep at full back so when he kicked a goal everyone got around him,’’ Tyndall said.
‘‘It was a great moment for us to enjoy on what was already a really enjoyable day.
‘‘A lot of credit for the win has to go to Tom Druitt though. He had at least 40 possessions running off half-back.
‘‘Jerilderie were flooding our forward line so I sent Tanner Robertson forward and he played his best game for us.’’
