Drop in a line to support Berrigan pool

June 06, 2018

Gary Lehre is looking forward to the big Fish Out in Berrigan this weekend.

Get your fishing rods, bait and tackle out of the garage because this weekend is the big Fish Out in Berrigan.

More than 200 rainbow trout will be released in the Berrigan War Memorial Pool — a first for the local area.

Participants will fish in two sessions throughout the day, and event organiser Gary Lehre said there are only about 60 tickets still available for the afternoon session.

‘‘It’ll be a little too crowded in the morning session if we keep selling those tickets.

‘‘It’s a great family day out as it’s quite unique to Berrigan because we don’t have a lake or river.

‘‘Each session should go for for 2 hours, however if all the fish aren’t caught in the afternoon we might extend the session because we need all the fish out of the pool.

‘‘We’ll restock the pool throughout the day so you don’t need to worry about missing out.’’

Each trout you catch, up to a limit of four, is yours to keep.

Five salmon cod will be released into the pool per fishing session, with each offering a special giveaway to the skilled anglers who snag them.

There will also be a host of raffles throughout the day.

The minimum cost to participate in the fundraiser is $10 per person, which entitles you to a session of fishing and the removal of one trout. Each additional fish, up to the set limit, will cost $7.

All proceeds will go back to the pool committee to invest in the facility.

Book at Avalook, Books on Chanter or the Berrigan Caravan Park if you want to fish, or attend for free as a spectator.

Morning fishing starts at 11am, and lunch and afternoon tea will be provided throughout the day.

Volunteers are still needed to help out. Contact Mr Lehre on 0466 256 010 if you can assist.
