A new junior basketball competition is starting in Finley.
The competition will be split into three sections based on age, with the basketball court modified to suit.
The younger age section is Mini Ballers, open to kids in Kindie to Year 2. The Mini Ballers will play on a modified court for two 10 minute halves.
Kids in Year 3 to 6 will play in the Ballers section, playing on a full court and 15 minute halves.
The Teen Ballers section is for High School students from Year 7 to 12. Also playing on the full court their game time is 20 minute halves.
The Finley Basketball Association is offering an exclusive ‘Try and Play’ offer. For the first three weeks of competition it will be free of charge.
Association president Aaron Taylor said the new competition will provide an extra option of junior sport in the region.
‘‘It’s open to all boys and girls in the area not just Finley.
‘‘The closest junior competition is either Cobram or Deniliquin and so we’re providing another sport for the area.
‘‘I highly encourage kids to come along for the first three weeks so we have an idea of numbers and they can have a feel for the sport. Basketball is a lot of fun to play.’’
Competition is $40 for Mini Ballers and $60 for Ballers and Teen Ballers (family discounts apply) and will be played at Finley War Memorial Hall on Murray St.
The first week is Monday afternoon May 14 at 3.30pm, with training for Ballers and Teen Ballers on Wednesdays at no extra cost. For more information contact Aaron on 0428 768 652 or check out the Finley Basketball Association Facebook page.
