Last year’s A grade premiers Moama were too strong for Finley in round four of the Murray League on Saturday.

Once again Finley A graders had to endure extreme weather conditions, the heat was near unbearable.

With four players out this week that enabled A grade to utilise some more of their junior players.

With Shania Bentley and Chelsea McDonald being the eldest on the team at 20 years-old, down to Savannah Wilson at 15, it’s a credit to these girls and their club to be able to field such a young side.

Final score, Moama 53 to Finley 32.

Awards: Finley RS - Shania Bentley, FFNC award - Savannah Wilson.

Finley’s B grade battled against an in-form Moama.

There were great passages of play and superb defensive pressure down the court.

All players gave 100 per cent in hot conditions but unfortunately couldn’t catch up to Moama’s lead.

Final score, Moama 46 to Finley 34.

Awards: Eagle i Award- Helene Steward, Hong Loch - Ally Rourke.

With the temperature close to 30 degrees, the heat certainly got to the Finley girls in C reserve.

The Cats were outran and outscored by a fitter team in the Moama girls.

Eliza Browne played at centre for the four quarters and was dominant in all aspects of her game.

Phoebe Doyle also played her role with her defensive pressure through the midcourt to star for the Cats.

Final score, Moama 51 to Finley 16.

Awards: Kelly’s Grain - Eliza Browne, The Teapot Cafe - Phoebe Doyle.

It was a tough game for the Finley Under 17s, with Moama dominant in victory.

Possession was hurt by turnovers with the score not reflecting the improvement in the girls’ teamwork. Wynta Brain and Molly McGrath worked hard in defence creating turnovers, but the Cats just couldn’t convert that to scores.

Final score, Moama 57 to Finley 7.

Awards: Finley Bakery - Niamh Mason, Canteen - Sharni Sykes.

Finley’s Under 15s had a fantastic game despite a six goal loss.

The Cats were on fire working hard at every opportunity to get the ball to the shooters.

Having only seven players this week the coaches decided to put Piper Doyle in GK. It proved to be a good decision with her working hard in and out of the arc getting many intercepts, backing up her other players and jumping high for a few rebounds.

Ruby Russell worked tirelessly as GA running the court, intercepting the ball and accurately shooting. Final score, Moama 42 to Finley 36.

Awards: Finley Bakery - Piper Doyle, Canteen - Ruby Russell.

The U13 A Cats struggled against Moama, going down by 30 goals.

Despite this, there were so many fantastic passages of play by the visitors.

Finley’s defence turned the ball over numerous times with great determination but Moama proved to be a better drilled side.

Final score, Moama 45 to Finley 15.

Awards: Finley Bakery - Jordan Gray, Canteen - Morgan Evans.

The Finley U13s B side started strongly to only be down by one goal at quarter time.

The intercepts and defensive pressure applied by Moama was relentless and eventually started to show in the scores.

Both Erin Chesworth and Naomi Haynes played their roles coming up from the Under 11s to fill in.

Sarah Bauer owned the WA bib with perfect drives at centre passes and great back up for the shooters in attack.

Josie Coombs was once again strong in goals and is improving her rebounding with every game.

Final score not recorded. Awards: Finley Bakery - Sarah Bauer, Canteen - Josie Coombs.

Finley’s U11s just missed out on their second win by the slimmest of margins.

The Cats’ focus this week was their footwork and maintaining three feet while defending.

Final score, Moama 10 to Finley 9.

Awards: Finley Bakery - Mikayla Simpson, Canteen - Naomi Haynes.
