Finley Showgrounds Committee has finally secured a grant which will allow it to provide a defibrillator at the popular local venue.
The showgrounds committee will match the NSW Government Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program’s $1115 contribution.
Committee president Rodger Sutton said it is an ‘‘important item’’ for the venue to have.
‘‘We have quite a lot of user groups and that number is getting bigger every year plus those groups are expanding as well,’’ he said.
‘‘It provides extra security for people when using the facilities, knowing that if something awful happens then we have something there ready.
‘‘We’ll be running a training program with members of the user groups soon, so that on the off chance it’s needed they know what to do.
‘‘This new defib machine is a good thing to give back to our hard working volunteers.’’
User groups of the Finley Showgrounds include the Finley Show Society and Finley Lions Club, with the grounds also home to soccer, touch football, pony club, the Finley Tractor Pull and Finley Rodeo.
Mr Sutton said the grant was a long time coming.
‘‘We’ve applied for many grants for renovations over the past few years and unfortunately we haven’t received anything,’’ he said.
‘‘We thought we were in with a chance at the last Stronger Country Communities funds (but the group was unsuccessful), so this is at least something.
‘‘Moving forward we will continue to apply for the appropriate grants.’’
