Local Dental has welcomed a new dentist.

Dr Holly Lin will join Dr Jimmy Patel and Dr Kritika Patel’s team and work from the Deniliquin and Finley clinics.

Dr Lin grew up in Christchurch and said she was happy to have the opportunity of a country lifestyle after spending time in Brisbane.

She studied at Griffith University on the Gold Coast for five years, seeing patients since her third year, with half a year ‘outplacement’ at Kingaroy in her fifth year of study.

‘‘I had an interest in dentistry from a young age,’’ Dr Lin said.

‘‘My dentist from my childhood was a family friend, so I was never afraid of going to the dentist.

‘‘I had it in mind for a while but what really pushed me was when my grandmother was diagnosed with oral cancer.

‘‘It was never officially determined, but it was believed to be caused by dentures rubbing against her cheek.

‘‘I then wanted to make sure I could look out for those who need dentures and do my part to help prevent this type of thing from happening.

‘‘I also just want to put smiles on faces.’’

Dr Lin first came across Local Dental after seeing an advertisement online.

She visited Deniliquin in February to check out the clinic and the town before deciding to relocate here.

Dr Lin moved to town last month, starting work one week after settling.

‘‘I’d never heard of Deni until I saw the ad,’’ she said.

‘‘I grew up in Christchurch before moving to Brisbane at the end of 1999. I’m enjoying the country atmosphere.

‘‘I went to a few of the events over the Easter weekend and I’m excited about getting more involved with the community.’’
