Finch ready for Bloods battle

March 28, 2018

Berrigan’s A grade will start the netball season with a new-look line-up, with playing coach Sabrina Finch set to make her club debut against reigning premier Tocumwal on Good Friday.

The goal defender has played C grade with Lavington in the Ovens and Murray Netball League for the past three years and has also played representative netball.

Finch decided to lead the Saints after securing a job in Finley and after being convinced by a few old friends to join the club.

Despite not having coached before, she’s confident her previous playing experience with clubs in Griffith and Leeton will help the team.

‘‘I played under some great coaches that have taught me a lot,’’ Finch said.

‘‘It’s already been a decent pre-season and our fitness is looking good.

‘‘I think we’ll play well throughout the season but it will certainly take a few weeks to get settled.’’

Looking ahead to this Friday against the Bloods, Finch is confident of a good start.

‘‘It’s important we give it 110 per cent right from the start and don’t lose our focus,’’ she said.

‘‘There’s plenty of excitement amongst the girls and I think they really just want to get the season started.

‘‘I expect us to have a few cobwebs but I’m pretty confident we can shake those off.’’

Club netball president Rachel Arnold said Finch’s previous experience would provide a deeper insight for the senior players.

‘‘It’s a real asset to be able to bring new ideas and motivation to the club,’’ she said.

‘‘We’ve seen more numbers at pre-season than previous years.

‘‘Last year’s finals berth has really boosted the club and we’re all keen to get the season going.’’
