The Tocumwal Foreshore came alive on Friday, for a morning of Australia Day celebrations and activities.

Hosted by Tocumwal Chamber of Commerce, the morning included breakfast and a duck race on the Murray River.

Children enjoyed face painting and the jumping castle, while the adults took time to check out the market stalls.

Chamber members cooked bacon and eggs, Tocumwal Rotary squeezed orange juice and the Tocumwal Ice-creamery served fresh waffles.

Chamber president Sergio Redegalli said he was particularly impressed by the number of young people embracing the Australia Day celebrations.

‘‘We had an incredible number of children who came along,’’ he said.

‘‘Next year are hoping for a lilo race to be staged using inflatable thongs, so the duck race has laid the foundations for that.’’

The duck race on the Murray River was a huge hit with families.

More than 700 numbered ducks were released, starting at the new boat ramp.

Duck number 701 was the winner, with Jacinta and Zoe Fenton from Victoria claiming the $100 prize.
