Tocumwal’s Trent Buckley said he’s gained a new perspective on leadership after attending the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA).

One of two Cobram Rotary scholarship recipients, Mr Buckley recently attended the week-long RYLA program in Drummond, Victoria.

The annual program offers the opportunity to build self-confidence, gain exposure to a variety of issues and people, meet active community leaders, and learn valuable information and career skills.

Mr Buckley was nominated for the program by his boss at Cobram Tech Solutions, who is a member of Cobram Rotary.

Mr Buckley said he learned valuable lessons about being a leader during the program.

‘‘I learnt that you don’t have to be the perfect leader to be a leader.

‘‘The people there were really supportive ... I made some life long friends.’’

Mr Buckley said RYLA had also helped his confidence with solving problems within his job.

‘‘Rather than palming off jobs I now challenge myself to see if I can come up with a solution. RYLA taught me there’s no real harm in trying.’’

Miliana Naicori was the other Cobram RYLA recipient.
