Finley welcomed in 2018 with an amazing New Year’s Eve ball to celebrate the occasion.

More than 170 people partied through the night at the Blue Bell Ball hosted at the Finley Golf Club.

Event organiser Maicie Close said it was the perfect way to finish the year.

‘‘Everybody was dancing and celebrating. It was pleasing to see the crowd well behaved.

‘‘There was a great community feel about it; most enjoyed the fact it was a local event hosted by people within their community,’’ Ms Close said.

Although the night was about celebrating 2017 and looking forward to the year ahead, the Blue Bell Ball also took time to discuss mental health awareness.

Guest speaker Steve Matthews discussed the role of local support organisation Riverina Bluebell.

Ms Close said there was something special about raising money for the chosen charity.

‘‘We raised over $4000 on the night and we’re expecting more will be donated.

‘‘We really wanted to get across the message about raising awareness for mental health within the local area.

‘‘The crowd responded well and appreciated what was said.

‘‘The guest speaker gave the crowd a better understanding of what services are available in the local area,’’ Ms Close said.

Raffle tickets were sold on the night and will be drawn on a later date.
