Summer tourists took full advantage of a bargain, with a big crowd flocking to the Tocumwal Foreshore Markets on Saturday.
Stallholders were blessed with a mild and sunny morning as tourists left their Murray River campsites to peruse what is considered one of the best markets in the region. There were also visitors from nearby towns as well as plenty of locals.
Foreshore Markets Committee president Bob Bowman said the monthly event is a wonderful drawcard for Tocumwal.
‘‘There were so many people it looked like the big Boxing Day sales in Melbourne.
‘‘It’s one of the best attractions to come to in Tocumwal and the Berrigan Shire.
‘‘The weather was perfect, and with many people missing out on the big sales in the city, they took the opportunity to buy what they could here.
‘‘The feedback I received from stallholders and visitors on Saturday was all positive,’’ Mr Bowman said.
Families and friends have been taking in the best of the Murray River with all beaches in the Tocumwal area packed with campers over the holiday break.
Tocumwal Chamber of Commerce secretary Claire Wilman said it was a busy Saturday morning in the town.
‘‘To see so many people at the foreshore and in Deniliquin Street exploring the market stalls and local businesses was a real treat.
‘‘This is the busiest time of the year for Tocumwal and we fully appreciate the influx of tourists; it’s an important cash injection to the town.
‘‘I feel as though it’s busier than last year, which is a positive sign for Tocumwal,’’ Mrs Wilman said.
