Swimming at the Berrigan War Memorial Pool remains free this summer season, thanks to the support of local businesses, families and organisations.

With the cost of maintaining the pool facilities about $10,000 a year, pool committee president Sue Chisholm said without the donations a fee would have to be be charged to meet these costs.

Major sponsors this season have included Berrigan IGA, Berrigan Lions, Dawmac, St Columba’s Church, Royal Hotel and Berrigan Caravan Park.

Joe and Carol Cottam and the Dempster family have also donated to the pool’s upkeep.

‘‘This pool is one of the best community hubs we have in the town and all money donated, no matter how small, is much appreciated,’’ Ms Chisholm said.

‘‘Without the donations from locals we wouldn’t have a pool free the public.

‘‘It’s amazing that every year we get so many people donating to our cause.

‘‘It’s a great example of town pride and the committee thanks everyone who donated.’’

Berrigan Lions president Kurt Bauer said helping to ensure there is free access to the pool is important to local Lions members.

‘‘The pool committee does a fantastic job to ensure members of our community and wider region can enjoy the pool during the hot summer months,’’ he said.

‘‘Local children use the pool and the Lions want to give back so we can continue this great cause every year.’’

The Berrigan War Memorial Pool is open every day during school holidays from 3pm-7pm.
