Peter Maraldo’s home claimed the Best Garden and Lighting Display accolade in this year’s Finley Christmas Lights awards.
His Scoullar St property won for its range of lights, the front fence display and the extensive effort in decorating a large tree in the front yard.
Mr Maraldo and his son Mason said they were shocked with the announcement, made at last Wednesday’s FinCity Xmas Xtravaganza.
‘‘I do it for my son, because it makes him happy and we both just love Christmas,’’ Mr Maraldo said.
‘‘We don’t do it for the competition, but knowing it brings joy to a lot of people.
‘‘It took us about four hours to prepare the whole display, and three hours was just doing the tree.
‘‘It’s the second time we’ve wrapped the tree since we started putting up lights about six years ago.’’
This year also included the new Chrissie Wastle Encouragement Award, which was won by Jamie Wilson.
SRN journalist and judge James Bennett said it was hard to pick a winner.
‘‘There were probably seven houses that could have won the garden display. I think nearly every street had at least three homes that went to a lot of effort to show off their festive spirit.
‘‘After the Xtravaganza I noticed a lot of cars driving around Finley and stopping outside the lit-up homes,’’ he said.
The results were:
● Best Garden and Lighting Display winner 41 Scoullar St (Peter Maraldo); r/up 7 Wollamai St (Bill and Kylie Gray).
● Best Hi Tech Display winner 2 Druitt Crt (Phil Wilkinson); r/up 94 Coree St (Max Sneddon).
● Best Business Award winner Eagle-i; r/up Agtrade.
● Chrissie Wastle Encouragement Award winner 4 Bridget St (Jamie Wilson).
