An amazing milestone has been reached by a popular Finley resident, with Shirley Randell recently celebrated for 30 years of service as a Finley Hospital Auxiliary Op Shop volunteer.
Mrs Randell said she has always enjoyed working at the Murray St Op Shop.
‘‘It’s important to give back to the community,’’ she said.
‘‘I love meeting new people and chatting to the regulars at the shop and learning about what’s happening around Finley.
‘‘Over my time here I’ve seen the shop expand in size. It used to be just the front room, now we have two large rooms with plenty of goods to sell.
‘‘I have peace of mind knowing the money is going to a good cause,’’ she said.
Mrs Randell works two days each week at the shop.
She said when she started, she would play tennis in the morning and work at the shop in the afternoon.
Auxiliary president Leslie Wilson described Mrs Randell as an ‘‘outstanding’’ volunteer.
‘‘Shirley is very kind to all the volunteers and customers,’’ Mrs Wilson said.
‘‘She always comes to work with a smile.
‘‘Not only is she a good volunteer to the Hospital Auxiliary, but a good friend to me and the customers.’’
Mrs Wilson noted Mrs Randell has only ever been late for work once in her 30 years, but it was forgiven considering it was when her home was inundated in last year’s floods.
The Finley Hospital Auxiliary Op Shop opened in 1978.
