Channel Nine personality and one of Finley’s favourite sons Shane ‘Crawf’ Crawford returned home last week to visit family and friends ... and spend Christmas in his home town.
He enjoyed the FinCity Xmas Xtravaganza with his sons Charlie and Ben on Wednesday night, where the former Hawthorn AFL star and now children’s show host said he was ready to spend a few days with family.
‘‘What a great event this is. It’s wonderful to see all the town out and about and enjoying the Christmas spirit,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s great to be back and spend a few nice relaxing days with mum and the boys.
‘‘It’s good to bring the boys up here to show them where I grew up and it’s been great catching up with old friends already.
‘‘Hopefully, mum can give me something better than the usual socks and handkerchief,’’ Crawf joked on the night.
Berrigan Shire Mayor Matt Hannan said he enjoyed the chance to catch up with his long-time friend.
‘‘It’s always good to catch up with Crawf, and I haven’t seen his kids in a while,’’ Cr Hannan said.
‘‘The one thing about Shane is he always remembers Finley; he is an important ambassador for our town.
‘‘He reinforces to his kids that ‘this is where I come from’. There are some who move away and never come back, but Shane’s always plugging Finley whenever he can.’’
With football never too far from Crawf’s mind he did have a prediction for the season ahead, assuring dedicated fans the ‘‘Hawks will do all right next year’’.
