Cats on track

December 06, 2017

Finley’s senior footballers started their pre-season training last week in preparations for a big 2018 Murray Football League campaign.

Coach Rob Daniel said numbers on the track have been good with 20 players turning up for the second session on Monday, including recently re-signed players Nick Robertson and Tom Doyle.

Daniel said the main focus is ball skills during the early summer months.

‘‘Twenty players is a pretty good number for this time of year, being cricket and harvest season,’’ he said

‘‘It’s important for the players to get a feel for the footy and work on their skills.

‘‘We had one or two from the thirds and I would encourage any player that is in their final year with the thirds to come down to seniors training.’’

Daniel said he was quite impressed with Doyle’s return.

‘‘He was overseas for a year, so to come back and start training pretty smoothly was promising.

‘‘As both Nick and Tom are from Finley, it’s always good to see the locals boys back at the club.’’

Training was cancelled on Friday night due to the rain, however Daniel said some of the players instead took the opportunity for a social gathering at the Finley RS Club.

‘‘Usually football is serious and sometimes we forget the social side.

‘‘So it’s good to get out occasionally and spend some time together and support our sponsors.’’

The Cats will train at the Finley Golf Club until the end of the cricket season.

Training will be held every Monday and Friday with a 6pm start time.
