Berrigan’s massive night market on Friday also marked the ninth annual Red Cross Fashion Extravaganza.

The extravaganza was held over two days at the site of the old Momalong pub, and shoppers travelled from places such as Corryong, Walwa, Yarrawonga, Numurkah, Cobram, Tocumwal, Finley and Jerilderie to grab a bargain from the local Red Cross volunteers.

Berrigan Red Cross president Marion Dickins said the fashion event was a resounding success.

‘‘We were delighted with the turnout on Friday night, especially considering the inclement weather.

‘‘We were surprised when we opened the doors to see a line of people waiting.’’

Close to 800 fashion items were sold throughout the sale, which equated to just under $10,000 when tallied with donations and the raffle money.

From the money raised, $6400 will be donated to the Australian Red Cross Myanmar appeal and $2300 to the Berrigan Hospital Auxiliary.

Berrigan Red Cross treasurer Lyndall Horne said the extravaganza was a testament to Red Cross regional manager David Clark.

‘‘David’s foresight that Berrigan hold an Extravaganza has been a rewarding opportunity.

‘‘The branch never envisaged that in nine years $92,376 would be forwarded to ARC and $25,120 donated locally. It’s an amazing effort by all involved with the planning, sorting and presentation work that is required,’’ Mrs Horne said.

Berrigan Red Cross is grateful to the business houses in Melbourne, Canberra, Geelong, Bendigo, Leeton and Albury who donate the designer label excess stock to the branch.

The sale’s proceeds then assist to provide humanitarian aid both in Australia and overseas.

The Berrigan branch executive would like to thank Paul and Val Head and all local supporters of the Extravaganza.

Organisers look forward to next year’s 10th anniversary sale.

Extravaganza clothing will also be available at the Berrigan Show ‘n’ Shine on Sunday, January 14
