It’s that time of year ... time to start dusting off those Christmas lights for the annual Finley Christmas Lighting Competition.

Spending his first Christmas in the local area this year, Southern Riverina News cadet journalist James Bennett will be this year’s judge.

He will be tasked with selecting the Best Home Christmas Lighting and Display and Best Business Christmas Lighting and Display, as well as the winner of the new category designed for the really adventurous Christmas lovers — the Best Hi Tech Christmas Lighting and Display.

Mr Bennett said he is looking forward to seeing how Finley and district celebrates the festive season through this new judging role.

‘‘Driving around Finley at night, I have already seen people putting up their lights.

‘‘As a new resident I don’t know what to expect but from what I’ve been told there are some fantastic displays that go up every year, which I can’t wait to see.

‘‘I would encourage everyone to take part in this colourful way to celebrate a joyous time of the year.’’

The competition is free to enter and displays can be registered at Murray Hut Clothing or the Southern Riverina News office.

Judging will take place after sunset on Sunday, December 17 and winners will be announced at the FinCity Xmas Xtravaganza at Finley’s Railway Park, on December 20.

The Finley Christmas Lighting Competition is an initiative of Finley Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and the Southern Riverina News.
