Finley Regional Care celebrated its annual Volunteer Day by hosting a luncheon for its dedicated and hard working volunteers last week.

Every year Finley Regional Care gives back to those who generously donate their time for residents.

Leisure and Lifestyle team leader Wendy Sutton said the volunteers provide important extra support.

‘‘There are some volunteers who come and talk to the older residents, which they really enjoy; others help with transport, reading and playing games such as carpet bowls.

‘‘We have a couple of volunteers who will sit down one-on-one with the residents and write down their life story.

‘‘Our volunteers are important to Finley Regional Care, they help our and take some of the pressure off staff.

‘‘Our program is designed to suit the volunteers with their time, and we’re always on the lookout for more volunteers,’’ Mrs Sutton said.

Long time volunteer Marj Maxwell said it’s always a ‘‘joy’’ to help with the older residents.

‘‘I just try to help where I can because I like volunteering.

‘‘The staff at Finley Regional Care are terrific and look after both volunteers and residents.

‘‘I like seeing the older people receive support.

‘‘There are some who really get a kick when the volunteers arrive,’’ Mrs Maxwell said.
