Finley Lions Club members recently attended the 2017 district convention at Barham.
Hosted by the Barham Koondrook Lions Club the three day event attracted about 160 Lions from across the V6 district.
The convention voted in new district governor for 2018/2019, Judy McKerrow from Lake Charm, who replaces Norm Walkington from Cohuna.
During the weekend 55 pairs of old spectacles donated by the Finley community were delivered to the Eye Health district chairman Alison Kazenwadel.
Finley Lions Club acting secretary Carol Kennedy said she was proud to showcase the support the Finley Lions get for the important program at the convention.
‘‘We were very thrilled to be able to donate used spectacles to the Lions Eye Health program,’’ she said.
‘‘The glasses are sorted and donated to countries in need of eye-wear.
‘‘We would like to thank the Finley community for donating and will always accept more, as this program is ongoing.’’
The weekend also included various guest speakers including bionic specialist professor Peter Blamey.
A remembrance ceremony was held on the Barham Boardwalk beside the Murray river and involved orchids thrown into the river to remember the 27 Lions and partners who had passed away during the year.
Mrs Kennedy added it was a nice weekend to catch up with old friends and make new ones along the way.
