Clubs seek new bowlers

October 04, 2017

Finley Bowls Club and Finley RSC Bowls are coming together to encourage people to come and try a new summer sport.

As the summer bowls season is fast approaching, what better way to try a new sport then with beer, barbecue and bowls?

Bowls Australia is encouraging anyone in Finley or surrounding districts to come along and give it a go.

North-east Victorian regional bowls manager Josh Thornton said bowls isn’t a sport only for the elderly like most people think.

‘‘There is a perception that bowls is a sport for old people but that simply isn’t the case,’’ he said.

‘‘Look at me; I’m 36, I’ve played bowls since I was 13 and I love playing it.

‘‘We have a motto which is ‘the game is for all ages’.

‘‘Bowls does have a competitive side and a strong social aspect.

‘‘Every week, you’re meeting new people or catching up with old rivals but it’s a social atmosphere.

‘‘The players are friendly and great to have a drink with afterwards.’’

Come and try sessions will be running on Tuesday nights alternating between the two clubs - Finley BC Tuesday October 10 and 24; Finley RSC Tuesday October 17 & 31. Starting time is 5.30pm.
