Another strong all-round performance has propelled the Finley thirds into the second week of Murray League finals.
A comprehensive 36-point victory over Echuca United at Mulwala on Saturday has set up a sudden death meeting this Sunday against Congupna, who upset Deni in last Sunday’s other elimination final.
Bursting out of the blocks and registering four quick goals proved to be invaluable in Saturday’s contest as Echuca United were forced to play catch-up footy.
With Finley’s Matthew Wilson and Zec Cuppins receiving close attention, players such as Taylor Kleinschmidt, Liam Osborne and Ben Ashley-Cooper were afforded greater latitude and responded with dominant contributions.
Wyatt Gray continued his inspirational run of form and he teamed beautifully with his fellow defenders to enable key forwards Duncan Clarke and Dylan Sibraa to slot seven goals between them for the Cats.
It was again a solid team performance from Finley with different players stepping up at vital times to cover for others.
The Finley coach has the luxury of a full list to choose from with the only injury concerns being onballer Dan O’Bryan and captain Matthew Wilson but both are expected to get up for Sunday’s final.
Congupna will present a completely different challenge this weekend and the Finley playing group will be hoping to capitalise on their current form and continue the march to this year’s grand final.
