Finley Public School student Sienna Burke was selected to represent Goulburn Tennis Region at the Tennis Victoria Cup in Bendigo recently.
The Goulburn tennis team consisted of players from teams based in Shepparton, Cobram and Kilmore, with the 11 year-old playing alongside Lachlan Fisher, Remi Serra and James Ross in the competition.
While happy with her performance, the young player said she had mixed results from the day.
‘‘I played singles and mixed doubles.
‘‘It was okay; I won half of my matches,’’ she said.
Despite living in Jerilderie, Sienna chose to join Cobram Lawn Tennis Club because of its strong competition.
‘‘I like the competitiveness of tennis; singles is my favourite because I like running around.
‘‘The competition is strong in Cobram; some teams are stronger than others and I have good coaches.’’
In January, Sienna and her family travelled to Melbourne to see the Australian Open, which was a treat for Sienna as it was her first time at the tournament.
Although she didn’t see her favourite tennis player, Serena Williams, she was lucky enough to see Austrian rising star Dominic Thiem and Polish veteran Agnieszka Radwańska.
‘‘I enjoyed how strong the players were.’’
Sienna also enjoys netball and Little Athletics, and can’t decide which sport is her favourite.
‘‘Maybe when I’m older, I’ll pick which one.’’
