Police are investigating the theft of fuel from a Jerilderie service station last week.

Shop attendants told police a woman, described as being in her late 20s, entered the store on July 24 to purchase food.

She was unable to complete the purchase due to insufficient funds in her account.

The shop attendants then allege the woman returned to her car, filled it with petrol and drove away without attempting to pay.

The woman was driving a blue Toyota Camry.

Number plates stolen from a car in Mooroopna were recovered in Tocumwal last week.

Police were patrolling the town when they noticed the plates on a car in Jerilderie St North.

Checks revealed the plates matched those stolen in Mooroopna, and police spoke to a 47 year-old Shepparton man seen with the car.

Police said their records show the man had been fined a few days earlier for driving unlicensed in the same car, but with different number plates.

He was charged with possessing property stolen outside NSW and ordered to appear in Finley court on August 25.
