Berrigan Public School hosted its house athletics event at the Sports Ground late last month.
Despite the cold and cloudy weather, the event was a success, with Algudgerie house winning the day.
The younger students also had their own mini event running that included the classic ‘egg and spoon’ and ‘potato sack’ races.
Year 6 student Sarah MacDonald broke the school discus record, with 18.75m, beating the previous record of 17.46m set in 2016.
The overall individual champions were: Junior Champions - Layla Towler and Jack Steel; 11 Years Champions - Telirah Harris and Xavier Fox; Senior Champions - Nikita Willemsen and Hamish Cameron.
Twenty-three students from BPS will compete in the Finley Zone Athletics carnival in Jerilderie on August 8.
Principal Gayle Andriske made special thanks to the people who volunteered their time.
‘‘Ken Gardiner saved the day, lending the school his sound system,’’ she said.
‘‘Ken along with Rick Gardiner were the reason why our carnival ran so well, and the staff and students appreciate their time and effort.’’
The school would like to thank all the parents who volunteered their time with assisting the teachers.
Also a special thanks to the Parents & Citizens Committee for running the canteen on the day.
