Enjoy a night filled with laughter at Blighty Football Netball Club’s ‘The Gillies’ comedy event this Saturday.
Named in honour of club legend Gilbert Bain, the event will feature performances by funny-men Johnny Kats and Evan Hocking, and will be hosted by Blighty’s very own Jed Brain and Matt ‘Jok Bok’ Boyd, more commonly known as ‘The JB Show’.
Event coordinator and JB Show member Matt Boyd said ‘The Gillies’ is a must on the club’s social calendar.
‘‘The Gillies is on the day of our last home game, against Picola United, before finals kick into action,’’ he said.
‘‘It will be a great evening full of laughs — Evan Hocking performed at a comedy night at the Finley Bowling Club last year, and it was hilarious.
‘‘We’ll also have our mock academy awards, The Gillies, named in honour of Gilbert Bain.’’
The Gillies will see club members recognised for their involvement at the club, no matter how unique.
‘‘We have awards for rarest person at the club, best new talent, the person who speaks highly of themselves, best couple and more.’’
Set to start at 7.30pm, the Gillies will be held at the Blighty Recreation Reserve and guests are asked to dress in double denim.
The cost is $30 per person, which includes dinner and entertainment.
Comedian Johnny Kats has been making audiences laugh worldwide for almost 15 years, and is known for his energy and impersonations.
Evan Hocking, who is involved with the highly popular Facebook page and comedy show The Suburban Footballer, is a regular at sporting clubs, and presents what is described as a ‘‘punchy delivery mixed with observational humour and storytelling’’.
