The eagerly anticipated clash between finals contenders Finley and Deniliquin didn’t deliver the close contest expected when the two sides clashed at ‘The Cattery’ on Saturday in the Murray Football League.
In near perfect conditions the well drilled Deniliquin outfit capitalised on their obvious height and size advantage to dictate the tempo of the game from the outset.
The young Finley players struggled to match the intensity of their opponents and weren’t able to build any momentum despite their best efforts.
The final scoreline showed Deniliquin prevailing by 50 points, 13.5 (83) to 5.3 (33).
Good players for the Cats were Luke Bramley, Lachy Gordon, James McCaw and Liam Osborne, who all showed great determination, while Matthew Wilson led the goalkicking with three majors.
This week’s home game against Barooga provides a perfect opportunity for the Cats to bounce back.
The Finley thirds are fourth on the ladder, now a game behind Deniliquin but two games clear of fifth spot.
