Local NSW Ambulance and Finley Fire & Rescue personnel helped make learning fun for children during the school holidays last week.

The paramedics and firefighters attended Biralee Preschool’s Out Of School Hours (OOSH) holiday program for a special Emergency Services Day.

Finley Fire & Rescue Captain Brian O’Hora said it was important to have children involved with their local emergency services.

‘‘We taught the children a general fire safety message, evacuation procedures, and the basics, including ‘stop, drop and roll’,’’ Capt O’Hora said.

‘‘It was a great event — the children enjoyed it, and so did we. The youngsters always enjoy having a look at the truck and learning how it works.’’

The children heard the fire siren sound and were shown the fire hose and the inside of an ambulance. They also took home activity books and plastic fire helmets, courtesy of the local brigade.
