Finley Public School students hit the track last Friday to raise money for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, commonly known as SIDS.
The fun run was held to support Cobram man Adrian Hayward, who participated in the Cairns Ironman Pacific Championships on June 12 to raise money and awareness for River’s Gift — an organisation which provides the largest source of non-government funding for SIDS research in Australia.
Participants raised almost $400, with all the funds going towards River’s Gift. A footy colours day in March raised another $160.
Sasha Wood from Finley Public School said the fun run was an opportunity for the school to ‘‘give back’’.
‘‘Each year, our Student Representative Council chooses a local charity to support, and fundraisers are organised throughout the year,’’ she said.
‘‘With a local family affected by SIDS, this was the perfect way to help out and do our bit for the community.’’
Students — as well as a number of Finley Public School teachers — ran laps of the Finley Lake, with family and friends cheering from the sidelines.
