Gay Henderson, Julie O’Brien and Janet Delmenico played off for Finley Golf Club Ladies’ B Grade Champion recently.

There was great excitement at Finley Golf Club last Wednesday following the third round of the Ladies’ Championship.

Kellie White was the outright open champion and Margaret Lemsing won C Grade.

However, there were three ladies sharing the lead in B Grade with 299 gross.

Gay Henderson had three rounds of 99, 97 and 103.

Julie O’Brien’s three rounds were 95, 107 and 97, and Janet Delmenico came in with 104, 95 and 100 forcing a play-off.

Conditions stated play over three holes with sudden death after that.

Unfortunately Julie was eliminated after the third hole with Gay and Janet going on to the fourth.

An errant shot to the green by Gay allowed Janet an advantage with her approach landing just short of the pin.

Janet went on to sink the putt and take out the B grade championship.

It is understood that the play-off with three ladies was a very rare event and created a lot of interest.

Following a get-together at Finley’s Birralee Preschool on Saturday, a support group has been formed for parents/grandparents and carers of children with behavioural difficulties in the local and surrounding communities.

It was agreed that the group meet at the preschool on the fourth Saturday of each month between 2pm and 4pm, with the next gathering to be June 24.

All are welcome to attend and share experiences and ideas with others in a similar situation.

This is aimed as a support group for adults, however children are welcome to accompany parents and play in the safe confines of the preschool.

Parents/carers of children with behavioural difficulties can sometimes feel isolated and this is a great opportunity to communicate and support each other.

Further information can be obtained by contacting Lyn Pascoe on 0423206590 or [email protected]

Details are also available on the ‘Parent to Parent-Berrigan Shire and surrounds’ Facebook page.

Doors open at 6.30pm, with the show starting at 7pm.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from the front office of the high school or at the door on the night.

Supper is provided and soft drinks will be sold at intermission.

The theme for this year’s performance is ‘Finley High’s Got Talent’ and will involve students performing songs, dance routines, drama skits and more. There is something to suit all ages.

Everyone is encouraged to go along to see the talent showcased by these young members of our community and this is always a fun night for all.

No doubt John Martin was delighted to receive the news he was the winner of last Saturday’s Finley Lions Club wood raffle.

With the current cold weather, many are taking advantage of the opportunity to win an extra load of wood.

The Finley Children Services again met at Birralee Preschool on Monday, June 5 and enjoyed a ‘Magic Hat’ day together.

The children listened to the story read by preschool educator Julie Robinson, with Linda Turley and Jill Kerr from Intereach also participating in the amazing session.

The children enjoyed making newspaper magic hats, wands, magic play dough and doing magic painting.

The services will get together again in term three for a ‘Very Hungry Caterpillar’ day.

Finley Golf Club ladies were pleased to welcome long time member Shirley McLelland to the club last Wednesday.

Shirley, a three time B Grade champion, is currently spending respite time at Berrigan Hospital and was thrilled to be with the ladies on this special occasion.

Hospital staff kindly brought Shirley to Finley for the day.
