Ninety dogs were put through their paces as part of the Finley Show Society’s Three-Sheep Dog Trials over the long weekend.

They were guided through obstacle courses at the Finley Showgrounds by 24 handlers over the five days of competition starting on Thursday.

Show Society president Keith Kennedy said numbers were down slightly, with some entrants having to withdraw due to illness.

He said those who did attend came mainly from NSW and Victoria, with one making the trip from Western Australia.

‘‘I was pleased with the running of the event and noted that a large number of local people popped down to watch. Some even stayed for a meal,’’ Mr Kennedy said.

‘‘The committee provided morning and afternoon tea and a hot lunch each day, as well as a roast dinner on Sunday evening.

‘‘The frosty and foggy mornings provided perfect conditions and the visitors enjoyed the facilities of the showgrounds.

‘‘I want to thank the sponsors, the committee, volunteers and the community for their help and support.’’

Mr Kennedy said a special local section at the trials attracted 10 competing farmers.

Held over lunch, the competition was dominated by James Colwell who, with his dog ‘Jet’, was awarded 85 points from the judges.

He was 12 points clear of Colin Bryce and ‘Levi’ in second place. Mr Bryce also claimed third place in the local competition.
