Finley A grade is knocking on the door of the Murray Netball League’s top six following a big win at home over Rumbalara on Saturday.
With some intense training over the last couple of weeks, the Cats are slowly finding their feet.
The first quarter set up the momentum for the rest of the game against Rumba, with Jess Cassanova and Chelsea McDonald both shooting at over 82 per cent accuracy.
The final scoreline didn’t reflect the game’s high intensity, which both teams continued until the final whistle.
Scores, Finley 79 def. Rumbalara 42.
Chelsea Taylor received the RS Club award and McDonald received the Daisy Mae’s award.
Finley B grade had a big win over Rumbalara, 54-28, moving the in-form Cats to second place on the ladder.
The Cats were aggressive up forward all game, with Keeley Coates and Bronte Russell combining beautifully in goals, particularly in the second half.
Keeley’s accuracy was much improved this week and her determination to maintain possession saw her coming up with massive rebounds over a much taller opponent.
Maicie Close had her best game of the season, providing precision passing into the ring, persistent driving through the centre and amazing intercepts.
Maicie was awarded the Bowling Club award and Keeley the Shoex Voucher.
In C grade, Finley 76 defeated Rumbalara 48.
Finley is combining beautifully and it was a high scoring game on Saturday.
Golf Club award went to Janelle Russell and Shannon Peasley received the Thursday night dinner award.
Finley C reserve had another great game, coming away with an 11 goal win against Rumbalara.
Lori Parmley showed she can shoot to earn the best on court and the Tuppal Hotel award.
Vanessa Geeves received the Hong Loch award with her strong leads throughout the game.
In the junior grades, Finley’s U-15s won 55-7. The Finley 15s are now fifth on the ladder.
Finley’s U/13s put into practice what they’ve been focusing on at training, in particular making space in the attacking end and providing strong leads onto the ball.
Ruby Russell earned the Finley Bakery award for her excellent movement in the ring, strong drives and accurate shooting.
Olivia Cicollini received the canteen award for listening carefully to team strategies and doing exactly as asked by providing strong drives onto the ball, doing quick ‘give and go’ passes and creating space. Great team effort by all the U-13 girls.
In U-12s, Finley 25 def. Rumbalara 22.
The young Cats are fourth on the ladder.
