A Victorian driver has been charged with multiple traffic offences following a police pursuit last Thursday.
About 6.30am, Finley Highway Patrol attempted to stop a Victoria registered vehicle after it was allegedly detected travelling at speeds of between 159km/h and 171km/h in a 100km/h zone.
The car was travelling north on the Newell Hwy, near Tocumwal.
Police said the driver failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit was terminated by police shortly afterwards.
Police said the owner of the vehicle — a 19 year-old man who holds a P2 Victorian driver’s licence — was located a short time later at an address in Finley.
The man was arrested and taken to Finley Police Station, where police will allege he made admissions to being the driver. The man also allegedly returned a positive breath analysis reading of 0.067.
The man was charged with police pursuit not stop, drive dangerously, low range drink driving and speeding more than 45km/h over the speed limit.
He is expected to appear in Finley Local Court this month.
